Back to Exchanges & Residencies

Artisans rarely get an opportunity to move beyond their homes/villages for long periods of time, and as a result the reach of their imagination remains constrained. The Artists-in-Residence program has been established with the aim of encouraging rural artists and craftsmen to explore and develop their artistic traditions through innovative and creative processes, and experimentation of techniques and materials.

The studio offers a design course and facilities, facilitating artisans development into independent designers. This design course is conducted over a period of 25-days in a residential, urban setting.

As a residency for Indian artisans, the studio process includes:

Basic design concepts

Material exploration

Concept development

with an additional focus on:

Exhibit Design

Visual Merchandizing

Artists host workshops in addition to a five-day long exhibit of their works during the Open Studio Week for the general public.
